You will see a reduction of anxiety and stress in your teenager because they will feel in control of their future.
We start with a one-on-one coaching session, where we get to know your teenager as they tell us about their ambitions, values, strengths, and weaknesses.
Next, we bring science into the process through psychometric profiling and ability testing. Our psychometric profiling and ability testing include three assessments by Podium Systems Limited. A Personality Assessment helps create a clear picture of the teenager's personality traits and behavioural tendency preferences. It covers their interpersonal, thinking and coping styles. This is an essential step as your teenager has not yet had the life experience to effectively identify their personality traits and how they can impact decisions at this critical stage of their lives. An Ability Assessment measures the teenager's verbal, numerical and abstract reasoning abilities. This is not an exam. It is a measure of knowledge that will guide your teenager onto the right pathway. A Career Interests Assessment sheds light on the career and jobs your teenager is drawn towards, based on the interest shown in the assessment. It is not unusual for a teenager to be surprised and delighted with the results.Read more
After receiving the psychometric results, we collate them into a workbook specifically for your teenager. The teenager works through this book, step-by-step, with the support of their coach. The workbook is theirs to keep as a guidebook into the future.
With their coach providing guidance and support, we encourage your teenager to research alternative ways to reach their desired career. The last step is to create an action plan. We work with your teenager to set goals, so they know exactly where they are going. We encourage the teenager to speak to their parents and guardians at this stage of the process, to ensure the teenager is well supported to succeed in the future. The Occupation Interests test and accompanying coaching sessions are most suitable for New Zealand secondary school students in Years 11-13 (or 16 - 18 years old). However, we have also undertaken it for University students in years 1-3 of their undergraduate degree (19 - 21 years old) and 24 - 25-year-olds, who were professional sportspeople needing a plan B for study/career, after sports
The most crucial part is understanding what it all means and how to apply the information. This understanding is gained through a "coaching discussion" with a Career Coach. This discussion ensures that the career interest profile information is understood and applied correctly in an individual context/situation. The career interest information is analysed with your teenager to check that it is a "good fit" for the suggestions and the top pathways are correct(therefore adding value).
The complete Swivel Careers coaching programme includes a Personality Profile, Aptitude test result indicators, and Value and Motivations exercises. As a stand-alone assessment, the Horizons Profile doesn't include the personality traits analysis of our complete programme. It only covers preferred behavioural tendencies around undertaking tasks and activities. Sometimes, an individual's extreme Personality Traits may make a Career Interest option more difficult to attain, and they may not be a good "fit" for the role listed.
The psychometric tests used in our career coaching program were developed by an organisation called Podium, built on a foundation of solid academic research. The core assessments are derived from the best scientifically validated psychometric models. They have tested and published their implementations of these models in conferences and technical journals.
As Swivel Career Coaches, we complete training and accreditation in New Zealand with qualified Podium Facilitators. We are qualified to understand, interpret and communicate a recipient's assessment results to them through a career coaching conversation.
