Wananga Learning

Culture responsive guidance for Māori and Pasifika learners

At Swivel Careers, our mission is to create inclusive and culturally responsive programmes for our learners, to encourage and support them in being successful in their individual journeys.

Te Kōtahitanga, a research and professional development programme developed by Russell Bishop, shows better learning and development outcomes are achieved by changing the interactions and relationships within the learning environment.

We strongly believe Māori and Pasifika learners achieve greater success when the coaching involves positive guidance, adopting beliefs about their ability to make a difference.

Swivel Careers prepares Māori and Pasifika learners to make informed career choices

We follow a few steps to help make the learners a better choice for a secure future

  • We are committed to improving the students’ educational achievement.

  • We establish a relationship with the whānau and iwi to be a part of this journey.

  • Developing discursive and co-constructive pedagogies, that balance the coach - learner power relations and promotes learning.

  • Focus on outcomes and goals that reflect student and whanau achievement and build reciprocal relationships with the community.

Recognizing the tikanga concepts

We are aligned with the Ministry of Education, Government of New Zealand led focus in supporting Māori and Pasifika learners. Some of our coaches are trained in the Māori Te Whare Tapa Wha or the Samoan Fonofale models of holistic learning and complete wellbeing of learners.

Our programmes are specially designed to help the learners choose their future pathways and support them in their achievements in their chosen careers.
